New Town Primary School Nurturing Brilliance, Inspiring Ambition

Pastoral

At New Town Primary School, we want everyone involved with our school to feel well-supported. We believe that good pastoral support focuses on nurturing the individual needs of each child. We aim to build trusting and empathic relationships with all our pupils and their families.

All our staff model to students how to look after themselves and others; encouraging them to seek help, support or advice whenever they need it.

Pastoral care underpins personal development, and we know from experience that with outstanding pastoral care, students feel that they belong, and their self-esteem is able to flourish because they feel valued and cared for.

All staff work with the pastoral team and together we all work with students, so they can lead fulfilling and balanced lives at school and beyond.

 Dedicated Spaces

We are very lucky to have four wonderful nurture rooms at New Town Primary School. The Rainbow Room, the Skylight Room, The Treehouse and The Glade. All four rooms offer the children an opportunity to relax and come together to share their thoughts and feelings with a member of the team.

The Treehouse, home for Mrs Walia, is located in the KS1 area. It is beautifully decorated with relaxing green, blue and yellow colours.  The perfect place for our younger family members to do colouring and read about their feelings.

Upstairs in KS2 we have the Skylight Room and the Rainbow Room where the majority of the pastoral team reside. These calming spaces are clutter-free and offer calming music, a home from home feel and places to be productive and engage in active emotional literacy sessions.

We also offer lunch time opportunities for children who prefer a quieter break time, away from the busy playground in The Rainbow Room. Our Rainbow Club is very popular and proves successful for children who can become dysregulated on the noisy playground.
